The Global Innovation eXchange (GIX), co-founded by Tsinghua University and the University of Washington, is a new kind of teaching platform driven by innovative projects. It is known as the "Tsinghua campus went abroad". The GIX building in Seattle, USA, was commissioned in September 2017.
In November 2017, the GIX released the first summer program for the third year undergraduate students at Tsinghua University. The project focused on global challenges, from the aspects of technology innovation, entrepreneurship and creative design to develop students' ability, broaden their horizons and experience the trend of innovation.
The details are as following:
1. Length: 8 weeks, during 2018's summer school and summer break.
2. Location: GIX Building, Bellevue, Seattle, USA;
3. Admission requirements: we are looking for students in areas related to Information science and technology, design. Interviews will be arranged.
GIX's summer program is driven by innovative projects and was built on the theme of "Connected Devices". It created a platform for research and entrepreneurship projects.
The project enhanced students' innovation ability in information software and hardware technology, entrepreneurship skill and design thinking capability. The project faculty resources included senior instructors from Chinese and American academia and industry. They participated in the project through lectures, discussions, corporate visits, and served as mentors and consultants.
The project provided corresponding software and hardware platforms to support rapid implementation and iteration of prototypes. Ultimately, students have delivered technical solutions that address specific social issues and propose achievable business models.
