April 13, 2017, the second GIX Innovation Competition was launched at CoMotion in Seattle. It had three hundred entries from China, the United States, Britain, France, Australia and other countries. This year's competition featured Mentor Program which projects were polished. It also joined hands with Meituan-Dianping with a new Deliver Robot track.
(1) Finalist Team 9 – Inspireus
Inspireus is an innovative health and wellness device aimed at helping users guide their breathing during yoga and meditation. Utilizing state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and signal filtering, the electronic device monitors respiratory rhythms, heart rate, and heart rate variability in real time. This durable technology can function as a standalone wearable device, or it can be comfortably embedded into a machine-washable clothing item. The device interfaces with an intuitive and user-friendly mobile application with which the user can dynamically interact.
(2) Finalist Team 10 – Billy
Regular exercise such as daily routine walks can help Alzheimer's patients cope better with the impact of this disorder. However, 6 in 10 patients will wander on a regular basis. Billy is specialized to assist those living with Alzheimer's disease. It is the first walking aid device that auto-detects abnormal conditions, confirms it by asking patient relevant questions, and provides guidance so that patients can recover from wandering without calling for additional support. Billy also acts as an automatic emergency beacon as well as sending customized notifications to caregivers and authorities when the patient is determined to be in need.
(3) Finalist Team 18 – Airy
In order to solve the environmental problem caused by batteries from smart home sensors, Airy presents battery-less door and window sensors for home security application. Instead of battery, their compact sensor features a micro-generator. The generator harvests energy from the mechanical impact in the operation of a door or window to power a wireless transmitter.
(4) Finalist Team 19 – MagicWeaver
Team MagicWeaver developed a consumer oriented mobile body scanning technology, which can produce accurate 3D body model and output body measurements. This technology provides an easy, accurate and economical way to capture customers body data for made-to-measure clothing companies, apparel ecommerce, fitness, and other industries that need body measurements.
(5) Finalist Team 21 - ShopSight
Online retailers have enjoyed a significant data advantage over their physical competitors, but the majority of purchases still happen in-store. Traditional brick and mortar retailers have been limited by their inability to collect comparable data. ShopSight is a data platform that allows retailers to track in-store customer behavior and inventory, without a purchase, so that they can make informed marketing and merchandising decisions. Their patent-pending signal processing and machine learning algorithms can detect subtle user interactions with commercially available RFID tags in ways that were impossible before.
(6) Finalist Team 31 – IndieHarvest
The global food system is broken. Currently produce are shipped on average 2,000 miles from harvest to consumption resulting in significant nutrient loss, carbon emission, and food waste. With IndieHarvest, we can fix this by creating a vertical hydroponic system that maximizes output through the design while minimizing cost and time for installation, planting, growing and harvesting. Compared to other vertical hydroponic system, IndieHarvest produces double the yield per Sq Ft at half the cost to growers and is designed in a way to optimize automation.
(7) Finalist Team 52 – Delivery Robot
The objective of this project is, rather than to show a fully-functional MERITUAN delivery robot, to exhibit a creative objective detection technology based on machine learning called CUE SENSOR which aims to improve the performance of the navigation process.
SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) is the key technique in navigation process for indoor delivery robot, which is a computation- al technology to help robot construct or update a map of an unknown environment while simultaneously keep track of an agent’s location within it. Although it has been widely used, defects like errors in distance evaluation and in self-localization need to be optimized, so in this project, cue sensor has been applied to optimize the performance of navigation process.
(8) Finalist Team 58 – FoodGo
Food delivery is a huge and fast-growing market in China. By the end of 2015, this market has grown to a size of 190 billion RMB. A delivery man drives a parent car and carries FOODGO robots to certain area. Then the robots drive short distance separately to their users to deliver food. After that, the robots gather at a certain point waiting for delivery man to pick them up. In this way, the efficiency is improved and the user interaction is simplified. delivery robots work both stably and smoothly. They perceive the environment by the sensor-fusion technology. Various types of sensors are combined, like stereo cameras, GPS, GSM module, etc. They use simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology to build an environment model.
(9) Exhibitor Team 16 – V-cell
V-cell aims to reinvent the farmer in you. Traditional farmers need to work under the sun and are usually away from urban areas. This innovation enables the modern family to experience farming and enjoy the harvest while using minimum space and time. It also eases the supply pressure and reduces the food import from overseas for those megacities. This is a revolution of planting and totally changes people's daily life: saving the urban space, providing fresh vegetables and improving the living standard. The "wall-base" solution not only saves space, it can also double as a Green wall or Feature wall. The solution uses IoT and AI at the backend to monitor environmental statistics and alerts the user to take preventive action so as to achieve higher survival rates as well as higher output.
(10) Exhibitor Team 36 – VIB
Sharing bike has been part of peoples' lives in China, and has become a vast industry. It is designed to solve the last mile transportation problem. VIB, as a self-diagnose system for shared bikes with low cost, low power consumption and minimum modification of the bike. Unlike traditional methods of measure parameters of bikes, VIB diagnoses bikes in an indirect way. It will get all valid information from the vibration signal. Furthermore, VIB can collect user data that differ among individuals, which may be able to identify the rider.
(11) Exhibitor Team 43 – O-pen
O-pen is a pen that does not require paper to work, it is intelligent, shared, environmentally friendly, it represents the future of stationery. O-pen with a miniature projection and positioning sensor, pen body with a pressure sensor, bluetooth and other connections & storage devices, these components allow the pen to display, write, store and network.
(12) Exhibitor Team 55 – Take-out Machine
Take-out Machine is a wireless transmitting and storing platform for customers to pick up food. This process can be applied to the large traffic flow such as office buildings and students' dormitory. Compared with traditional unmanned vehicle, this process can reduce waiting time, and improve user experience.
